Go to your local high school. Find the people with thier hair died black, fingernails painted black, black clothes (marilyn manson t-shirts are common), and maybe a bit more black.

Ask them about themselves, they'll tell you what "goth" is.

Its those pissed off teens you see sulking around high school. The generally wear all black, or bright strange colors. They're pissed off, and pierce stuff because it makes them look more pissed off. You won't see too many of them once you get to college.

HAHAHA:
- Extremely silly and pretentious people who were severely ridiculed in high school, and as a result, now pretend they are gay vampires. They are eternally trapped in the mindset of an oppressed 13 year old, and so seek out other like-minded people in order to play "halloween-dress-up-fantasy-pretend-land" 24-7.

Ask a real goth instead of buying into the stupid stereotypes everyone's pulling out. My wife was in the goth scene for 15 years before I met her. Basically, yes they do dress in black a lot and wear velvet and corsets and listen to stuff like Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus, among other things.

Most of them have ordinary everyday lives and just do the goth thing at night and the weekends. My wife used to talk about goths she knew that had perfectly normal everyday lives, like a friend she had who was a neurosurgeon during the day and goth at night.

Well, you see a lot more 13 year old kids dressed up crazy like that than you do grown adults. I don't think the stereotype is entirely unwarranted.

Goth (not talking about the ancient history now, but the current people) is just one more category that many people fall into. They don't what to be like everyone else (often defined as the "popular" kids). They don't want to act like them, they don't want to dress like them, they want to be individuals. So what do they do? They find a group of kids and act and dress exactly like that group. [sarcasm]Yep copying another group is really being an individual[/sarcasm].

The goth trend is to wear black, wear black makeup (even the boys), pretend to be depressed, discuss death, have castle like decorations, often involves vampire fantacies, etc. These of course are all sterotypes, and not every goth person fits all of them.

Funk Goth. I'm gonna creat an entirely new group called "Enlight"

We'll dye our hair white, wear white shirts, white suits, white ties (white dress for females with white stockings) white shoes and we'll walk around telling everyone to "Be well"
