What is goo-gone?

According to the bottle it "removes grease, stickers, tar, gum, crayon and tape." Add CPU grease to it also. The back of the bottle states that it contains petroleum distillates.

I used it yesterday to clean the CPU grease from my retail heatsink before installing my Golden Orb. After placing the Gorb on my temps dropped 12-15 degrees Fahrenheit. i don't believe it is harmful to your chipset.

You should clean it with alcohol after using it, the goo gone will eat up the thermal pad/paste a little bit.

i just went to my local walmart and tried looking for it in the housewares section and also in the auto section but its not there. the sales associates there arent much of a help either as they havent even heard of googone in the first place.

which section is it at in walmart? i guess i can always try home depot and hope they have it there too.

You can find them next to tapes in hardware section. I fins it in Kmart but it is the last one and was used. Then I go to Home Depot and find it too, also next to tapes. $3 for a bottle, cheap, and it says non-toxic. Of course won't try to taste it but I think no need to use a glove to work with it.

Haven't tried it yet.

At Wal-mart, they should be by the House cleaning chemical section. Walk down the Isle where they have windows cleaner, floor cleaner(that bald headed guy.)

thanks guys. i finally did find it at exactly where vpham said it was. i had tried the housewares area, where they have paint thinners, masking tape, etc and also the auto supplies area, which i assumed would be the two most logical place to put them, but they werent there. i didnt even bother looking at the housecleaning section w/ all the mops and tile cleaners and yet, there they were! :Q😎

Anyone know if lighter fluid will remove thermal tape/compound effectively? It would certainly be cheaper and handier than hunting through Wal-Mart for Goo-Gone.

price on the googone bottle was 2.87 + tax. just around 3 dollars total. very much worth it IMHO as it did an *awesome* job cleaning out the thermal pad on both my chrome orb and my fop38.

i had tried rubbing alcohol, fantastik, 409, chlorox clean, windex, simple green, and even the late night infomercial CLR cleaner and none of them got all that sticky junk out like this stuff.

btw, just so you all dont think i'm some sort of nutcase, i didnt purposely go out and buy all those products just to clean my heatsink, i just had them in the house and gave it a shot. heh. 😛😎
