What is going on with my new Radeon 8500?

I just received a brand new Radeon 8500 Retail version from the ATI factory, and the other day I installed it and was thrilled at the high scores it got in my benchmarks. Now today I had to reinstall Windows, and i installed the drivers and ran some benchmarks, and they were way below par. I ran 3DMark2000, which got over 11,000 points earlier, and on the same test it now only got 3,300. Can anyone tell me what is going on?
