What is Glib? Trying to instal the codec for XMMS to allow for avi playback....

um......I went to www.gtk.com and downloaded and installed glib 2.2.0 and I tried it again and it demands 1.2.2

isn't it backwards compatable? Must I downgrade just to get it to work? Thanks

gtk1 and gtk2 are very different, if something needs 1.x then you need to use 1.x. Also, you should only install things as root, there is no need to compile them as root (and there have been backdoors that install themselves that way).
