What is Geek Squad using to create these system restore disks?

I recently purchased a laptop at BestBuy and it did not come with system restore disks. Geek Squad wants to charge me $30 to create restore disks for me. How do I go about doing this myself? Does anything know what software Geek squad uses to accomplish this?

I am guessing they just image the drive using one of the many backup utilities. You could try Norton Ghost or Acronis TrueImage. I personally prefer Acronis but they're both great.

A lot of times the computer manual comes with instructions telling you how to create a restore disc. Look through the documentation. I've never done it myself because I've had virgin install discs which I prefer to use.

Most of these new laptops have utilities that let you make your own recovery disks. It's usually buried somewhere in the start menu.

Can Acronis TrueImage create an image that is bootable, just like the pros?

The recovery disk utilities that come with these laptops make bootable recovery disks. What brand laptop did you get? Are you just trying to make a system restore disk that will restore the laptop to the same state it was out of the box? Or are you trying to make an image or backup of your system after you've set everything up the way you like it?

It's the latter and it's also something I would like to learn in order to do it for home built systems and perhaps for my clients as well.

Thanks in advance for your help guys.
