What is g92?

I've been out of the hardware loop and am looking at building a gaming pc right now. I'm targeting the 8800 GT or GTS as the video card in my price range and I keep hearing that G92 is superior to G80.

What are the differences between the two? Are all 8800 GT's G92? If not, how do I know I am getting one?

If you get a 512MB 8800 GTS, it's a G92, and the only GTS you should be considering.
