Usually it's based off labor rates for things such as waste management, disposal of certain oils, parts, towels, etc, free drain plugs, or gasket replacements. Not many places still charge it however. Some are state-mandated though.

Haven't seen it called GoG in a long time, usually it's called Disposal Fee, or Shop Charges nowadays.

Charges to cover the overhead of the shop. Easier than trying to item the actual items on a bill.

Usually a set $ amount.

Shop supplies. It is usually a percentage of the labour cost. Covers things like rags, welding rod, the odd nut or bolt, wear on tools and equipment etc..

Stuff that gets used but would be a pain in the butt to itemize.

General other goods. You payed for the shop rags, gloves, sealants, etc. they used a fraction of what they had in stock but charged you for whole bottle as if they didn't have it and had to order.... Shops will screw you! Do your own work! Lol they used two little sprays of their WD-40 but charged u for a whole can... That's how they keep their stock in supply.... I know I have a degree in automotive and learned how it all worked... What u didn't see on that receipt was the 20% admin fee as in they buy ur parts at discount but charge 20% over what would have been full price. Big shops are jewbags. For example I did a simple rack and pinion swap. We bought the used rack for about 800$ and charged them 1900$ just for the part alone then u add labor and what ever else u used lubes. Sealants, gloves sprays.. Even if just one. You charge them for a new bottle/box. I went into this field not to be a mainstream rip ur dick off in outrageous hidden fees I did it to learn how to do it myself.... So I wouldn't get raped by the dealers or somewhat bigger shops... By the way the total cost for our shop for that rack job was 1200$ and all said and done the customer ended up paying 4500-6000$ Cause she added something at the end like brakejob and tire rotation... Yeah they made 3-4000 in profit.... They money raped that poor mother that came in for steering problems.....
