Well the wife and I are going to the city to get away from it all and spend some quality time...

We were looking at going to a spa for one of our quests...possibly to the Mall of America for shopping...

I am looking for recommendations on resturants...romantice types...and fun activities to do ? We are going Labor Day weekend...

Any suggestion are apprecaited...

thanks,

Leeland

The new Guthrie theater just opened and if there is a show a night you are in town you could always try to go. You could either buy tickets in advance or try for rush tickets. At the old theater the rush tickets were about $15 or so.

If you like art there is the Minneapolis Institute of Art that just re-opened and also the walker art center and the sculpture garden.

If it is a nice day and you want to get out for a walk the lake calhoun/uptown area is nice.

For a resturant you may want to look up W.A. Frost.

I've got an uncle named Leeland in St. Paul. Whenever I go there to visit, I go for one thing. Khan's Mongolian Barbeque. Best food on Earth. It isn't a fancy restaurant or anything like that. But they just have the right sauces for the right cuts of meat, and the right vegetables. Plus their undercooked honey-filled donut-hole things make me drool.

Go to the Univ of MN campus, on Washington there is a restaraunt called "Big 10", it's right across from the Radisson (I think it's still a R), have a full ham sub. Best f'in sub in the world, I hit that place every time I go back to visit my family. Free popcorn and cheap beer, you can't go wrong.

I spent many many many nights there. Not to mention the next day, those subs are awesome hangover cures.

Check out the Weisman Art Center when you are there.

Go to Uptown, lots of cool small shops.

Bars? Glueks, LoneTree, Rosens...

I also can recommend Khan's. There is one in Richfield that would be on your way from downtown to the Mall. Also, there is a light rail from downtown to the Mall and it sure beats driving, so I would definitely look into that. There are plenty of nice steak houses downtown, Manny's, Ruth's Chris Steak House, Rossi's, etc. All are very good, but also definitely not cheap. The state fair is also excellent as its one of the largest in the country. There are also tons of bars on First Ave just off of Hennipen. As LegendKiller has already said, Uptown is another great area for bars.

I live in eden prairie, 10 miles from minneapolis , or so.

uptown has a couple cool shops, go eat at famous daves there, its kind of cool. get a full rack !

minneapolis has a lot to offer, pick up tickets for the Science museums body art thing, its only here for a month more! The show seems to sell out fast, so get tickets before you come.

I live in St. Paul and I agree:

1. Khan's = AWESOME food, great atmosphere. Don't be hesitant because of "Mongolian Barbecue" in the name.

2. State Fair = Get corn on the cob and Pronto Pup and you won't be disappointed.

3. Mall of America = gotta do it..something for everyone

4. hit up a MN Twins game = you can get cheap $5 tickets, they're HOT right now, and they're playing the White Sox this weekend.
