USB 1.0 = 11mb speed

USB 2.0 = 480 mb speed

PCI Card 10/100 mb speed

Internet connection:

DSL 1.5 - 6 mb

Cable 1.5 - 30mb
 
USB 1 is actually 12Mb but you'd probably not see that real world. But with most dsl modems USB1.1 would be fine. None of the solutions makes it faster than the next. It's about available bandwidth. All have plenty of bandwidth for a typical dsl connection. USB is a shared medium however and not really performance tuned. But I doubt it's slowing your internet connectivity down.
