I've seen quite a few threads saying that although the Neo2 Plat is a good board, that it's not a beginner's board. I plan on getting it, and this is my first build; I'm wondering exactly what about it makes it not a beginner's board, and will it really affect my choice of that over another MB?

Just read the manual closely. I have been putting computers together since the old 8086 days. This is the first time I've used MSI, and it's the first board I actually had to read the manual with. However, if you read it, you'll be fine.

Look through the threads on this forum. Most users don't post here to celebrate their successes. You'll see that many of the threads, if not most of them, are cries for help or are complaints about their hardware. Read them and you'll see that in most cases the hardware is not to blame for failures, but the ignorance of the user is.

Save yourself some grief. Learn what you're doing before you buy. If you have to ask why this hardware is not a beginner's board, well then...

NEO2 = excellent board but people with few experience always blame everything in the mobo no mather if the problem is either a generic or ANTEC PSU (most times) or a bad configuration in BIOS,and Raid system, i have even seen people flamming in MSI and lather finding out the problem was a misconfiguration in the HD jumper or some stupid mistake, other thing you want to avoid is playing with the timmings, or getting the agressive configuration when you have value RAM, thats why is suggested only for people with experience, if not read the threads 90% of them are related to user mistakes.
