It uses the PowerPC chip architecture developed jointly between Motorola and IBM. IBM rolls out high end versions in their midrange UNIX/AS400 systems and Apple get the Desktop variants.

Previously they used the Motorola 68000 series up to the 68040.

to the current generation P4/Barton? There is none. Apple's still on 1.42ghz.

Dunno, and no one else does either. Just get a PC and overclock it too. Like me. Works really swell :D
