What is DVD-Ram? Is this a good DVD-R drive?

I was looking up some stuff, and I don't know the difference between DVD-Ram and DVD-R if there is any?

I was particularly looking at this one. Kind of cheap but is it good?

Do not get that drive. Too limiting. First read my FAQ, then check below for drives to consider, in no particular order:

1) Panasonic LF-D311/321: DVD-RAM/-R - $$ (I use this one.)
2) Pioneer DVR-104/A04: DVD-RW/-R -$$
3) DVD+RW/+R - $$$
4) Panasonic LF-D521: DVD-RAM/-RW/-R - not out until October and $$$$
