de-militarized zone.

on a firewall, its a port (or ports) that are open to the outside world, so that you can run servers on it, etc. without having to use port forwarding

Some routers allow you to select a machine and 'put it outside of the firewall' if you are having trouble getting ports mapped. Not reccomended unless you have to as you loose your firewall security when you do that.
