I was hunting for a scsi hard drive for my 6400 server and I ran across this drive:

IBM Ultrastar 18.2GB 3.5 1 Hi 68-Pin SCSI Ultra Wide LVD DMVS 10,000 rpm p/n 09L3905

Sounds perfect, but what is DMVS?

Yes . . . those letters are applied to different series of drives . . . in this case, Ultrastar SCSI. The letters specifically relate to the IBM microcode used to define the drive during the manufacturing process.

That is one of the slower Ultrastar drives . . . the new ones with DMVS hit 15,000 rpm!
