Not western as in cowboys... western as in US, Europe, etc... in the global sense.

An object, a picture, an idea, anything!

and I will protect you from missteps
And whoever doesn't want to dance at the end
doesn't know yet that they must
We're making a nice round dance
I will show you the way
Santa Claus is coming to Africa
and Mickey Mouse is standing in front of Paris

We're all living in America
America is wonderful
We're all living in America
America, America

We're all living in America
Coca-Cola, Wonderbra
We're all living in America
America, America

We're all living in America
Coca-Cola, sometimes war
We're all living in America
America, America:music:

american media, revealing clothing, drugs, wasting money, being lazy, george bush, parents that aren't strict, etc.

those are not all things specifically bad but rather things I've heard brought up in relation to the US in other countries

Yeah, we all know that Asia and Africa never have wars.

Who started the problem in Africa? Europeans =)

If you think europeans started the problem in africa, you're very ignorant of history. All Europe did was arm them and draw some lines in the sand.

As for 'what's western' -- that's complicated, but I'd say:

theoretical physics, atomic theory, germ theory, secularism (in the sense of making it a formal doctrine), industrialism, individualism, communism, and materialism.

In short, there are a lot of 'western' things.

What problem in specific, and what does this have to do with Asia and Africa never having wars?

Depends on how you define those terms. I'd say you could equaly well argue that any of those are equally applicable to other parts of the world. Its also easy to interpret that staement as a fancy way of saying what CorporateRecreation said.

Blue Jeans...

Lived in Ireland for a while and some of the guys we were around used to say stuff about Americanism and stuff, and they'd be wearing blue jeans!

Yeah, and if I was to guess at those Irish guys I would say they drank too much, wore ill fitting cheap clothing, rooted for the local football team(not real football), had bad breath, and smelled like urine.

Aren't stereotypes fun!?!

direct colonialism, hands down.

although colonialization was evident in other areas of the world (Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere, anyone?) what defined "the West" from every other state was the development, cultivation, and eventual abandonment of almost the entire landmass of the world from the 15th century to the middle of the 20th century.

nothing descibes western ideology like conquering, exploiting, then abandoning the lands of billions of people!
