Color banding refers to noticeable steps in a color gradient (that should be smooth).

It is caused by the inability to accurately produce all colors, resulting in ranges of colors being displayed as one.

Easiest way to see it?

Open up PhotoShop, GIMP, or whatever your preferred photo editing app is & create a nice full screen gradient. In a perfect world it would be a completely smooth transition from one color to another.

I'm not much of a gamer so I couldn't tell you how much it would affect your gaming experience.

I don't think color banding would be noticeable in most games unless you were really picky or looked for it. Especially BF2 where you're always moving around and not paying much attention to how shadows fall or transitions between textures. If you haven't noticed it, I say don't worry about it.

I think it would be better to be worried about response times for gaming.
