I've taken algebra 1 and 2, geometry, trig/pre-calc, ap statistics, and ap calculus ab. do any of these count as college algebra?

if you've taken ap calc you don't have to worry about college algebra, unless it's linear algebra.

thanks. the reason I ask is that I'm filling out a college application and they ask if I've taken college algebra in hs. they also ask about alegebra 1/2, geometry, trig, and calc, so I assumed that college algebra was something else. so... is it?

I would think so, too. "College Algebra" = pre-calc, at least at my school. I took pre-calc last year, and calc 1 this semester.

No, none of those are "college algebra." I'm enrolled in "college algebra" next semester, a.k.a. "Algebra V."

okay. sorry, one more question. it asks if I took these "high school courses." should I still mark them as taken if I took them before high school (as in 7th/8th grade)? they say they'll verify my answers with my hs transcript...

If it asks if you took Algebra one in highschol and you took it in 8th grade. If it asks if you have taking a C++ class do not put down the VB class you took in 7th grade :p. College Algebra+trig = Pre-calculus at most colleges. I wouldn't say you've taken college algebra, though, unless you actually have. The school will know what they count for college algebra and what they don't.

Algebra V = LMAO not quite. If you are good with Algebra 2 and know trig, college algebra is basically nothing. (I went from Alg II straight to calc I at college, the Trig was the only thing that hurt me, but that is easy to pick up.)

I didn't say it was hard. What do you mean "not quite," that's exactly what it is.

okay, the college algebra issue is in the past, guys ;) does this make sense to anyone?
List what you have been doing (for example, employment, school, military), and where you have been for the past three years. You can enter up to 5 activities. You must include coverage for all months and be specific regarding your location of physical presence during this period.
do I need to list each school year, and that I worked each summer? that only gets me back 2 years (since the limit is 5 activities).

I see you're dilema on the app., but as far as if you need to worry about taking it in college, doubtful. I think college algebra is for those that didn't take all the advanced math courses in HS like you did. This gets them up to speed. You'll probably start right in Calc 1.

Hijacking your thread...
I'm a math major and have discovered a great way to use up all of my elective credits. I'm going to go back and take all of the lower division math courses that I never had to take. Algebra I and II, both sections of math for business majors, math classes for CS majors. It's going to be great. I took a class designed for CS and ECE majors this term. I have spent about 80 minutes each week (including an hour-long recitation) to get an incredibly easy A in a four credit class.
That is all.

If it is #5 what happened to #3 and #4? I think it is basically Algebra 2.25 :)

Theres

Pre Algebra
Introductory Algebra
Intermediate Algebra
College Algebra
Plane Trig
Pre Calculus

If you have taken trig, pre calc, or calc, you are exempt from College Algebra. You're placement for math will depend on how well you did in AP Calculus. More than likely you will be stuck in Calculus I.

If in doubt call the school in question's admissions office, they could give you a difinitve answer.
