I just ran Sandra on a BX motherboard I just setup for my son with 1 64meg stick of Hyundai ram and 2 16meg sticks of PC66 CL2 rated ram (dont ask all I had) anyhow when I checked the memory it said on the 2 small sticks rated CL3 100mhz, CL2 66mhz, CL1 33mhz...? Never seen CL1 rated ram...? Any thoughts on this...?

Thanks... ;)

I've asked this question before and Andy Hui provided me with the answer. They used to make CL1 up to PC66 but due to the low yields and higher costs, the much more favorable CL2 variety is used instead.

What this means is that, at a 33MHz memory bus, it is possible to run your RAM at a CAS latency of 1. Conceivably this could help out performance in most of todays apps provided you are not memory bandwidth limited. This is due to the nature of most apps to be more latency than bandwidth dependant. The only problem this this is that no motherboard I have heard of supports such a CAS latency setting. You may be able to set this with a program such as TweakBIOS but I can't be certain.

Thanks for the link very interesting... ;) It just caught my eye about the CL1 from Sandra and kinda had my attention... Maybe I should sell it as PC33 Cas1 ram... hehehehe... :D (just kidding...)
