What is CD Text, and do I really need it?

I have two Plextor 12/10/32a cd writers (one is an Iomega) and neither of them do CD text, according to CD Speed99. I also have a TDK 12/10/32 that does do CD Text. One of these drives is going in my mother's new machine that I am building for her and I want to know which two to keep.

If I don't really need CD Text then I would like to keep the Plextor and the Iomega (It's ID string and firmware are now Plextor) so I can take advantage of Plextor's proprietary software. If I need CD Text for some reason I will keep the TDK. Maybe I can find a way to change it's ID string.

Any help on this dilemma would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

CD Text is read by some CD players as a kind of "CDDB" type thing. When the CD player reads the CD Text, it displays the track names/disc title/artist/etc. instead of just the track number. It's up to you if it's important :) Good luck
