What is causing my CDrom drive to still show previous disk

OK...this happens on my wife's computer. If she had a disk in before and removes it and puts a different disk in the CDrom drive and she goes to my computer...the drive still shows the previous disk. Even if she double clicks on the drive it still shows the previous disk. We almost always have to explore the drive to get to the contents on the disk that is in the drive.
What is causing this??

 
i had that happen with my floppy drive and i had to replace the drive to get it to go away. this was in both windows 2000 and windows xp. did you try another cd rom to see if the issue persists?
 
That's happened to me recently. I had a bad install of my OS. Reformat and reinstall fixed it for me. But I'm on 98se.
