What is cause and solution for occasional failure of display to show parts of PowerPoint slides

Sometimes my LCD (Samsung 150P) does not display the full background of my PowerPoint template on the screen during creation of the slide; but, when I switch into Slide Show mode the template background is all present. What is doing this and how to fix it?
