What exactly do you mean by "drug policy"? In terms of what?... if you narrow it down I'm sure someone here will be able to rattle it off :)

I think his policy is about the same as the Anandtech mod's policy on Pron -- please forward it all for evaluation ;)

Seriously, I haven't read any "official" stand from him on the issue of decriminalization, but when he was the governor of Texas (I used to live there), he increased mandatory sentences for 'hard drug' sellers etc, but didn't really change much of anything with regard to users.

As for possible decriminalization, I think the odds of him being for decriminalization of any drugs are slim to none......

convex,<< the nazis are back>>.

Are you smoking some of that stuff?? What exactly makes someone a Nazi for enforcing the laws of the land? Isn't that what he's supposed to do? If the laws need to be changed, let them be changed, but so long as they are not, it's the AG's job to enforce them as they are.

...except that the citizens of WWII Germany did not have the option of changing laws. In a democratic society, the people decide what the laws should be, and those laws should be enforced as they are created. Laws are subject to review by the courts. If you have an issue with the laws being "nazi-like", you need an education in what life under the Nazi's was REALLY like..... You can't blame Ashcroft for the laws, he doesn't make them.

convex,

so you are saying that supporting the laws of the US and supporting the laws of Nazi Germany is the same?

In other words, the US is just like Nazi Germany?

I disagree.

the nazis are back was in reference to reagans war on drugs and one of ashcrofts "#1 priorities" being the war on drugs. Now, the ss comment was in reference to ashcroft "enforcing the laws of the land". this would assume what the ss did was ok as they were just enforcing the laws of the land?

Bush is going to follow the conservative doctrine of ignoring the problem. Just like abortion and welfare, drugs are a part of our soceity that will not go away. Imprisoning dealers and users will do nothing but destroy the lives of those individuals. Others will step in to take their place. I'm certainly glad that California recently passed a proposition changing the way those found with drugs are sent to therapy, not jail. The war on drugs has become almost as great a loss as the Vietnam war, I think it's time for a new approach...

The "War" will continue, but in a change of policy that has Washington abuzz, Dubyah will personally oversee the disposal of the drugs. :)

<< "One of the top priorities of our administration is, as outlined in our election campagne, to give each child, adult and senior full and unrestricted acess to drugs, including but not limited to Angel Dust, Ganja and Coke. >>

I just got that from the Whitehouse.gov site ;)

Unfortunately convex is right. That's one issue that I part company with the GOP. There's no way he could have supported legalization and got elected, though. Don't know if it makes much difference, but neither Gore or Reno were looking for legalization or decriminalization either...

I don't think that all laws of the land should be enforced. I consider some of the laws about possession of pot should be overlooked like the law that is on the books in Alabama(there is a law that has a punishment of death for putting salt on a railroad track). This is still a law but I dont really think it should be enforced do you?
