What is Boca Raton like?

My friend is thinking about moving there. Can anyone tell us if it has a good party scene, lots of old/young people, things to do, is it close to Miami?

He's interviewing with a company down there.

I used to work for GE Colonial Penn Auto Insurance. and the majority of our claims came from Boca Raton. (colonial penn is 55+ insurance)

Yes they do.

Unless things have changed in the last few years, TwinkleToes77 is right about the senior population being fairly large.

Realtor.com has a lot of information on schools, crime rate, cost of living. demographics, home prices, apartment rentals and so on.

I heard they have some real crazy parties at those retirement communities! People staying up till all hours of the early afternoon!

Oh well.. its not like I have been offered anything there yet..

I don't like Cleveland too much, so dunno.. Boca Raton has gotta be better weather and it doesn't seem to be too far from Miama..

Lets see what happens.

[Astroviews friend who is interviewing for a job in Boca Raton]

Also home to Florida Atlantic University, where I graduated in 1975.

Then it was a small town with two types of residents: filthy rich and college students.

IBM started making PCs there in the early 1980s and the town grew with the addition of middle-income families.

You friend will love the weather and FAU is a great place for taking classes.

It is a four-year University now but when I attended it had only junior, senior, and grad students; it was designed, along with Florida International University, to be fed by the Community Colleges.

I lived just south of ther and I tell ya, Boca has grown up quite a bit. It still has communities for the old folks(Face it you are in S.Fla. you are going to find old folks coming out of your teeth) Out in the western part , it has really turned into a nice community. It is about 30 minutes from Ft. Lauderdale and about an hour from Miami. Not a great party town, but I imagine you can find some clubs/bars down near the ocean where you can get hammered. I guess you could just scoot down to Lauderdale or Miami if the urge hits you.

It is always hot and the traffic is pretty rough especially duting "the season". Oct to March. Overrun with French Canadians and some of the most beautiful people from the great stae of New York(tongue planted firmly in cheek). I moved away from there to escape the heat and traffic. But silly me, I move to Atlanta where heat and traffic take on a whole new meaning.

Edit; You asked if there is anything to do. You got a beach at your back door, but that can get old after a while. Florida Marlins about 45 min south as well as the Dolphins. Panthers play out west of Sunrise, also about 40-45 min away. Then there is always girlie watching on the beach. Can't beat that!

Peace

while girlie watching is an awesome pastime, I wanna move to the girlie meeting pastime 🙂

Hopefully if I end up getting the job there, I can figure out how to switch pastimes

heh
