Well that's on a single layer, Blu-Ray is spec-ed for dual layer as well, the same as current DVDs are dual and single layer. Blu-Ray is also one of two competitors for the next-gen optical storage medium war, the other being HD-DVD. Lots of information on the "battle", it's quite interesting.

There was actually a good article talking about the PS3 and Blu-Ray on IGN today.

i actually have a blue laser dvd on my desk at work right now and a dvd jukebox as well im testing out..they are quite slow with the cartridges beign 15GB per side

Doubt speed is much of a problem in the 1st phase of the technology... it always speeds up. Just need it to win the format war and all the companies build off it.
