Opty 248 is s940, for servers.

The Opty 165 is the one to look for.

2x 1.8 Ghz with 2x 1 MB L2 cache

And to answer your question, both are good.

The X2 3800+ is better at stock speeds, but the Opterons tend to OC higher, if that's your thing 🙂
