what is better x1800xt 256 or 7800 gt

I think the X1800XT (256 or 512) would be better in more games than the 7800GT. The X1800XT really competes more with the 7800GTX and 7900GT than the 7800GT.

Agreed. If you insist on a Nv card, then at least get a 7900gt. The only way I'd get a 7800gt is if buying a used one for <$200.
