In my pursuit of ocing goodness, I am curious about speed of the cpu, my board is stable so far to 330 fsb, but I am failing prime 95 with 8x multi and passing with a 7x multi at a lower cpu speed, does it matter or is overall CPU speed better to have overall.

overall cpu speed to an extent..... you do want as high fsb as possible. if you look at some reviews and benches of s939 hardware you'll see that usually the sweet spot is around 300 fsb, even though some systems can go higher using a higher multi with that 300 fsb is about the best OC you'll get. which is about 2.7ghz with the s939 chips.

1) overall cpu speed
2) tight cas timings
3) bandwidth and FSB....

pretty far down the list....

Listen to Duvie, though I would add that if you're gaming, a strong video card (6800/X8xx) will take you a long way, so if you're on a budget, dare to go cheap on mobo/CPU/RAM and buy a strong video card. You can get away with this on the A64 platform quite well.

in your case, overall cpu speed

if they are relatively close...but with slightly slower cpu speed and higher fsb, then the slightly slower speed is actually faster than the slightly faster cpu with lower fsb
