What is Better 1 CPU Vs. 2 CPU

Right now I am looking at two setups...P4 or 2 1600XP..they would be about the same price...take a look

P4 System_________
Asus P4B533-E $160
P4 1.8 $140
= $300

AMD System________
Asus A7M266-D/L $210
(2) 1600 XP $106
= $316

So what one would be better for a Sever (Web,FTP,Files and Games) and be alright to keep on 24/7 without alot of fans to keeps it cool... and would that same setup be also good for a gameing system? and maybe some overclocking...

What do you guys think?

For multitasking (running game server and also playing on same machine) i would recommend the dual XP system

Of course you'll need an SMP compatible OS (Win2k, XP Pro, Linux)

Not all XP's can run in dual mobo's, even after connecting the bridges. Keep that in mind.

Overclocking a server sounds silly to me. If you want it to run 24/7 reliably for several years, SCSI drives are the best bet, and SCSI cards don't generally like overclocking, for one thing.

You don't want to use many fans? Is that due to noise concerns? If so, you might try the "strength in numbers" approach. My work system is really quiet despite having five (quiet) case fans, and it certainly has enough ventilation to run dual Athlons. The system is spec'ed here: link Despite being a 15000rpm drive, the Cheetah is actually very quiet due to a fluid-bearing motor. Seeks are a little louder than most IDE drives, but quite pleasant. It's warranted for 5 years of 24/7 usage too

If you're running game servers, I'd definitely go with dual AthlonMP's for their hefty FPU capabilities. And Anand has found that dual AthlonMP's are tough competition even for dual-Xeon systems, let alone a single-P4 system, when it comes to Web serving. Just make sure you get a nice big PSU for the dual-AMD rig (Antec TruePower 480W would be nice). Whatever you get, a good APC line-interactive uninterruptible power supply would be smart, too... maybe a Smart-UPS SU620NET. No, it isn't cheap. Neither are the things you're plugging into it!

I'm noy plan on its beening a high end sever...it just going to be use by maybe 6 users at a sametime..(if that).. so i don't think i really going to need SCSI drives...and as far as overclocking...its just a idea for later...and i don't think i be useing the computer for more then a sever but if i take the sever offline then I would because a gameing system..
