What is best HSF for OC on MSI Pro2a and Duron 700

I'm pretty sure you can get a SuperOrb for around that price, and it should sufice fairly well..
although, you can't go wrong with the Alpha PAL6035, cooling my 700 @ 1Ghz 🙂
They will cost you more aroudn 30, but it's worth it.. If I could get 300 extra mhz on every processor I've baught for 30 bucks.. I'd be happy.
 
I have decided on a GlobalWin FOP32-1 for my upcoming Duron 800. It cools very well. Its mass is way below the 300g limit restriction suggested by AMD (unlike the ALPHA PAL6035 and the Hedgehog). It's noise is supposed to be not too bad (unlike his sibling with the faster fan, the FOP-38), easily covered by case fans. Its cost is very reasonable and it is easily available. Finally it fits all mobos.

The Alpha may crush your core or damage it when you move your case, just due to its sheer mass. You may gain only 1C more cooling with it than with the FOP32-1. Moreover, it costs more than your suggested price. The SuperOrb has to be modified (cut) to fit on a Pro2A.

im planning on getting a Alpha PAL6035 too for my duron setup...but i wanted to make sure if it fits in a msi k7tpro2a. does anyone know?
 
Get the FOP32. Apparently it's a tad loud, but certaintly not in comparison with the FOP38. It cools very well, and is only $20 at www.2cooltek.com, you might want to get a small packet of thermal compound, too.

Heh, in fact, I'm just about to get an MSI K7T Pro2A, too, for my Duron 600 (that will, according to my seller, OC to 1 Ghz) and am going to get the FOP32 (I'm going to get a shim, too....check another thread, a guy was selling them for $6 + shipping.) I heard the FOP32 was troublesome to install (at least on a KT7 board)...hope i don't screw something up. After I install the mobo in the case, I should apply thermal compound to the "AMDDuron" plateau-cube thing in the middle of the cpu, right? Then put it in the socket, pull the lever down, place the shim on, then put the FOP32 on, right?
 
I tried ordering from 2cooltek for the fop32-1 but they canceled my order because I live in Italy. They said that they only take orders that have the same address for both the product and the bill. Needless to say, I am a little upset because my mobo, Duron, and all the other components are coming tomorrow and I can't do jack without the HSF. Can't find a good computer store in Italy for the life of me. Arrgh!! :| What to do... Does the fop32-1 fit on the MSI pro2a?
 
I'll second the vote with Snow Patrol for the Taisol....

I guess a very small mod is needed to get it on the MSI K7T-Pro2-A,

But that is what I will get as it is approved for up to 1.5ghz....

Not too heavy either, not near as loud ...

I vote for the Globalwin FOP32. It has been doing great in my rig keeping the Duron 600 @ 900-950Mhz below 40 C. Fits OK in the MSI K7Tpro2A...although it was a little tricky to get the clip fastened..a little bit of a tight fit, but I am sure all fans need to go on tight to cool better.

PS..I hope you get lucky and find a vendor. Why not have a friend from Italy with proper credit card / address match.. simply buy it for you and you pay back.

Another vote for Taisol - I have the one rated to 1.2Ghz (don't remember the part number) and it cools my 1.1Ghz T-Bird very well.. but these things still run HOT! 😀
 
Yes you should get some thermal compound!

Many people have recommended Arctic Silver www site. I have read that it greatly reduces the heat.

I used a small amount of AC on my CPU's core. Then attached the HS/Fan to it..(btw, I removed the "goop" that came with the heatsink ..used a razor blade and carefully removed..then sanded the surface of heatsink to remove all of the stuff properly..)
