On a HP pavillion PC that just hit my bench with 370 infected KlezH and elkhern viri files. Does this client software open a port that can be exploited and virus's loaded through this client? Iwent to the website. Bunch of RaRa look at me,I have new software that is the latest and greatest. This is a home user on a home PC running XP home, that came with ZERO Anti Virus software. As soon as it was hooked to the net, on a dial up account, it got the virus.

Should I be concerened that this may be the culprit?

I believe so, I have it on mine but i don't use it at all as I have found no real use for it. it runs open as long as you are on the net

I think that is a bad idea. Easly exploited. I will do more research. The PC was infected and I have a dialog open with symantec to find some answers. If this is a vulnerability, I will close it down.

I looked in the users guide and it says it does all these updates automatically, so I would think you would be open to attack. HP has been pretty good about answering emails on specific ?'s about thier software. May want to try the website and shoot them an email, this time of night they usually answer pretty quick as I usually email them in the evenings with any ?'s most nights I get an answer within a couple hours, I just wouldn't use it, as they can update manually anytime from hp website. Much safer.
GOOD LUCK!
edit oh yeah by the way the reason I quit using it 2 years ago was that it seemed to be a resource hog and my internet connection really blowed even worse than a typical 56k, yes I am on a 56 k
