What is backlight bleeding

Im buying a Dell 2005fpw and the guy saids it has very veyr slight backlight bleeding almost unnoticable and 0 dead pixels. im not too sure wat backlight bleeding is can any 1 elaborate

That's a pretty nasty case. Can't say the same for the...what are they called? A3 revisions?

My 2005FPW

Set my desktop to black and hid the start bar. Barely any back light (little on the upper left).

The thing is.. mine looks sort of like the bad picture there, especially on two of the four corners, but aside from displaying an all-black background, everything looks incredible. I think the backlight issue is blown way out of proportion; in general use you don't notice the backlight bleeding at all.

i agree.. the only time i ever saw a backlight issue is when i was booting up and it had the black screen.. even watching DVDs i never noticed it..

I get some around the edges of my Sony SDM X-73...but again, I don't really notice it on DVDs or games (I just checked now using a "blank screen" screensaver preview in windows..it bleeds in about an inch on all sides, though it fades to black the further you go in...isn't too bad...especially for how good this moniter is otherwise.

Thats the price of an LCD...I guess the liquid crystals just don't react as well as you go further out and block out all the light on the second polorizer.

You want PERFECT colors, including black? As well as a very long life? Wait for OLED screens...some cell phones have them. Its only a matter of time till the grow in size. Even thinner than LCDs!

I'll throw my hat into the ring and agree as well. The backlight bleeding is just as bad as my 2005fpw as mentioned here in the anals of time, and it hasn't bothered me yet in almost 9 months of use. I've not been bothered with it at all when watching the occassional movie or playing a game like FEAR that is dark all the time. It's a complete non-issue, and people made way too big of a deal out of it.

When you play Doom3, Thief, and similar type dark games, you really notice it.

When you play Doom3, Thief, and similar type dark games, you really notice it.

Backlight bleeding is another personal sensitivity issue much like 6-bit/8-bit color, ghosting, etc. Some people are very sensitive and others barely notice.

However certain habits can make backlight bleeding a real issue

If you play dark games in a dark room, backlight bleeding can be annoying

If you generally work/play in a lighted room, backlight bleeding is nearly invisible even when the screen is completely black

To OP:
I would ask for a pic taken with a blackbackground in a dark room. Decide how much time you spend playing dark games with the lights out...

Backlight bleeding is very much in evidence in Doom3 and Thief....I know because I played them on a 2001fp. The background in most scenes is black and you can see the bleeding very easily, especially in the corners. It's not a question of sensitivity. It's a flaw in the display and it detracts from immersion. Rather than deny this reality it is best to simply accept it and ask yourself if this is acceptable. I returned the monitor so you can guess my judgement.

ya backlight.. not sure if it's a vga vs dvi thing..
i was using dvi and i didnt notice it at all,
then when i switch it to vga on the other computer, i NOTICE it right away...

but most likely it is not which input i use, but monitor's problem.
I don't have any problem using it in normal windows, you wouldn't notice it at all
but once it turn dark screen, i can see the backlight here and there...
