Just wondering what ATI is up to . Rumors say that they will be releasing a new card to counteract Nvidia's NV35 and price cuts as well. Any other thoughts on this?

Orton also said ATI will fire its next salvo in the ongoing battle with rival Nvidia Corp. (NasdaqNM:NVDA - News) this fall when it launches its newest high-end graphics chip, one it hopes will overshadow Nvidia's recently launched GeForce FX 5900 Ultra.

Link .

they dont need a new card, all they need to do is make the 9800 pro price a $150 and the 9700 pro price at $100 and they will dominate the market.

They'd dominate until they went bankrupt...

R400 doesn't exist anymore. What was once R400 is now R390. But like was already said earlier in this thread, RV360 and R360 are next from ATi, probably this summer. More than likely just a 9800 with higher clockspeeds.

R390 is the Q4 2003/Q1 2004 product which will have more architectural changes.

Lol, true. But it also depends on what games you play and the frame rates you need to have fun IMO so for me I only really need to upgrade when I feel a need or when I think that I can ugprade for not that much more...

There's this thing called a "profit margin"... You see, "most" companies have to make a certain level of profit or they can no longer be a company. Maybe you need to stop surfing forums and go back and retake economics 101.

;)

Yea, well they are talking about something that will "over-shadow" the FX5900 Ultra this Fall. I'm SURE nVidia won't have anything else out before then. ;) Nope. Probably NOT. :p

Unfortunetly as of late the internet is becomming those of the "free" generation where they want everything "free." This includes absurd wants for GPU pricing.

if they can sell a 9700 that is striped down into a 9500 for less than 200 that can be hacked into being the better card and still make a profit, then they can afford to sell the 9700 for 150. BTW isnt ATI loosing a ton of money already. they probably go bankrupt either way.

Good point, but thats also why ATI has stopped making the 9500 line.
