I don't know what it stands for, but essentially its a disc image format. One can be generated with most burning software so as to save an image to burn later. It is associated most often with Warez.

It's an image of a bunch of files. You can burn it to CD with Adaptec or easier yet, use ISO Buster to extract the files from an .iso PM me.:)

Like said, it's a CD image file (like a BIN and CUE from cdrwin, but doesn't need a cue, but then again, a BIN doesn't really need a CUE either), and is mostly associated with warez copies, although it's what's made when you do a CD-->Hard drive-->CD copy...

The term ISO is used in many places. The one I am familiar with is the CD image term for ISO. You can create an image of your CD (given that your CD does not have any copy protection) and it can be burned anytime to look like its original CD. Remember, it's for backup purposes only! :)

yeah in bidness iso is just a term meaning that something meets a set standard (international standards organization). ISO 9000 and ISO 9001 are the most popular. meaning if a product is ISO 900x certified then it has certain qualities to it. for the cd burnin arena i thought i saw someone saying ISO was latin for Equal. that could make sense as an ISO is an image of a cd. any truth to that?

ISO 9000 is the Organisation that sets the standards.

ISO 9001 are the manfacturers of products that meet the ISO 9000 standards.

ISO 9002 are the service industries that meet ISO 9000 standards.

The 'standards' are set so as a certain procedure is used for continious improvement. That there are rules and regulations that are followed during the improvement process....in other words..

A bunch of educated types with too much time on their hands!

iso stands for "international organziation for standardization" like beat said. it's also related to cameras and digicams - the iso number for cameras relates to how sensitive it is to light.

All that crap falls under what I call "salary justification."
