What is an Ipod ready receiver for the car?

What exactly is IPOD ready?

Some car stereos / receivers, come with a front headphone jack to connect any device (MP3 players..)

Some come with a USB front connector.

Why do I still need some sort of a cable to make an IPOD work?

I went with the Clarion 675USB because I can use the CENet adapter which allows for iPod control plus it charges the iPod while connected and being used. I am planning on upgrading to the Clarion 775 touchscreen later this week for full iPod control.
