Get him one thing nice\expensive and one stupid cheap toy that he will probably like better than the expensive gift.

Depends on how serious you are, income level, age, etc.
But if I were going to spend about $50, I would probably look for a 'smaller' accessory like a wallet. I was at the Coach outlet last week and saw some men's wallet's for <$50.

I'd get him what he needs and would like and not worry about the $![]()
Well I have to worry about the money. If he gets me something for $20 and I get him something for $100 he is going to feel bad.
Ah, well that's a new element to the story.
Why don't you guys decide how much you will spend on each other?

Christmas at two months is a difficult situation for you and your boyfriend.
Last year, I was in a similar boat, but it was 4 months. I felt that my GF had a very good impact on my life and I wanted to splurge a bit on her. But I realized we had only been together for a short time. So, I settled on $100. I normally give long term signficicant others ~$150 gifts and family/friends ~$30 gifts. So this was in the middle. Then I opened her gift to me and it was a lowly DVD. She spent maybe $20. I was a bit insulted. It wasn't that she was showing problems with our relationship, but it turns out that she is even more frugal than I had thought. She thought $20 was splurging on a gift and she splurged on me because she liked me that much.
Conclusion: anything near $20 will be an insult, even if you don't intend it. But you really don't need to spend anything near $100. Try for the middle, ~$60. He'll like it and you won't send any wrong message. I would go for something just over $50, so you error on the positive side. Something just under $50 can be good but still look a bit cheap and may send a negative message.

lol
It's just a present.
He is 18 and I am 25. My income is much more than his, and I don't mind spending $50.
I just dont want him to be like, "Damn that's way to much."

It depends on how much you like her. I mean, if you think she's the one, get her something over $100...otherwise, $50 or less is fine.
are you serious or just being an ass?
...or just ignorant...
Why bash him? he just wasn't paying that much attention I'm sure, maybe skimmed over the thread and posted his advice assuming OP was talking about his girlfriend instead of boyfriend. Simple mistake.

even at 18 years old $50 isn't that much money. If he has an after school job he can afford $50 no problem. That or if you are kinda serious with him you can set "limits". So he gets an idea around how much he should be spending.
For example me and my g/f put $100 limit on each other gift this christmas. So what will end up happening is i get something for $100 and i buy her something that cost $140, but i tell her i got a great deal on it and it only cost $100. This has worked out quite well for many holidays with us.
Yes, we are still together. This year, we just spent last weekend in NYC for a Christmas trip together. That was our main gift to each other, and we decided to each buy something ~$25 to open up near Christmas day.Originally posted by: snoopdoug1
Wow, 20 bucks? That does suck, and that is extremely frugal... you still with her?
