What is ambient temp?

Like the temperatures immdeiatly surrounding whatever you are talking about... So if you're talking about case temps, the ambient temperature would mean the room temperature.

Ok next question.

When you look in the bios or any software like MBM 5, it gives mobo temp and then cpu temp.

Is the mobo temp gauge just mounted on the mobo, reading case temps, or is it actually buried somewhere, taking readings right from the circuits or something? Is it an accurate or at least ballpark representation of your case temps?

I always just assumed it meant case temps but now I'm not so sure...

Depending on airflow and heat sources there may not be a single temp. Case temp wherever the diode is on the mobo may be higher or (more often) lower than the temp of / near your hard drives. If the mobo temp is high you should assume the HD temps are even higher and think about adding an intake fan or another exhaust fan.

So proc tems would mean case temperature?

Thanks, Dave. My mobo temp stays at 34-35C. I've got a 120mm intake fan in front blowing directly over and under both hdd's, and then the side fan blowing in right next to the hdd's, and then 2 exhaust in back and one exhaust on top. Then there's the SF II running at full blast on the SLK. No more fans plz 😀

It wouldn't hurt to check out some temp gauges though. That'll give me a cheap project to tinker with for a bit 🙂

Sorry MrCodeDude, didn't mean to hijack your thread. Proc temp is measured from a diode that I believe is mounted right under where the cpu die sits. I could be wrong, though 🙂 It is meant to reflect the temp of your cpu chip. The other temp reading is the mobo, and is closer to the case temps, but still not really accurate evidently.
