What is AGP Pro

I have a graphics card that I want to make sure will fit in my AGP slot of my motherboard. The card is a Quadro4 980 XGL and the motherboard is Epox K3A+. i THINK i heard someone say the card was AGP pro, and not all motherboards support it. how do I know if mine does? how do I even know if the card is agp pro?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I've read some where on the net that you can use a non AGP-Pro Video Card with a AGP-Pro slot but not the other way around.HTH

yes that is true, i know that for a fact.

i need to know if my motherboard is agp pro then, because it doesn't say it on their website, nor have i seen ANY motherboards say anything about agp pro

ok the card definitely has a registration tab...

it's not a "clip", right? it's actually a slot that the part of the card is supposed to go into?

From what I can tell on page 14 in the manual it is just a standard AGP 4X slot. AGP PRO slots are longer.

this link from sharky extreme says that the K3A+ has AGP pro, but it also says it doesn't have onboard USB2 or LAN, but mine does...

hold on a sec, that's for the 8K3A+, and that's what it goes to on their site when you look for K3A+... I'm 100% sure mine doesn't support 8x agp, which is what the 8 implies. that's the wrong board

edit: hrmm now it says
"AGP Slot: 1 (1x, 2x, & 4x modes)"

wonder why it has an 8 if it's not 8X agp

AGP Pro provides extra power to the videocard via some extra pins infront of, and behind the card depending on the current rating. There is AGP Pro 50, and AGP Pro 110 cards, with the number being the wattage required by the card.

just take a look at your agp slot. A lot of the manufacturers have put a little sticker on one end of the slot witha label letting you know it is a pro slot.

If you have an older agp card throw it in the slot. If there is space left over about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch it may be a pro slot. I am curious that it wouldnt say on the manufacturer's site.

If there's a little white thingy in the APG slot, then it's a Pro slot. That's just there to keep non-Pro cards from shifting.
