Hi, I was reading the mobo review and I saw that the mobo had 5 pci slots and 1 acr slot. What is ACR slot?

Thanks

"Audio Communications Riser" - was meant to be a cheap interface to plug in an ACR modem or expand upon your built-in sound. Was never really used except by some OEM's. The enhanced sound thing never materialized. You can get an AMR modem for about $15 which isn't any cheaper than what you can get a PCI winmodem for.

oh ic, so this acr slot basically is not better than the pci slot then. I thought this is a new slot revolutionary.

No, not any better. The only use would be if all your PCI slots are full and you still need to add a modem you have that option there.
Same thing with CNR slots that come on some mobos - same thing just a different standard.

Actually, this may not be an option. The CNR slots are pretty close to the PCI slot making the slot "shared". Since this is "shared", only one device will fit through the back slot of your PC - either a PCI card or the CNR modem.

ok then. I got it now. I wonder why I never see acr modem. Does USR make an ACR modem? I don't think I see that on the USR site. Do you know what modem that use the acr type? thanks...
