No you can likely run above 60c but for safety reasons and stability under 60c will be optimal for you....

well its not like you HAVE TO run under 60C
its just generally it should be under 60C cuz after that stability may become an issue

hell i ran my tbird 1ghz at 85-95C for 6months, still going strong

Stability is the key as many mobo report temps differently and therefore could have differences in readings and may be incorrect....

One thing to watch is once we get into summer and those room temperautres increase and that 70c can become 80c fast....

I say hold 60c as magical line...if it means getting a different hsf then maybe so.....

he's right... in the summer, I couldn't run my DC programs cuz the higher temps caused my cpu temp to go from 64C to over 70 and since i had my alarm turned on it would beep and my roommate would turn the computer off.

So, try repositioning cables, getting fans, something to get better airflow in the case and help keep the CPU as cool as possible

Intelman...with the intel p4 b0 stepping keep it under 60c load....rumor has it throttling can occur around 66-70c, but that depends on how and what the mobo is repoting the temps and how accurate they truly are...The p4 b-0 stepping should stay good since it is likley you wont get much more then 400-500mhz out of it. If you don't jack the vcore too high I think that chip should stay under 60c with stock cooling...

Well my 2.4@3.24ghz w/ 1.6v doesn't go over 54c and I only have 2 fans and an 80mm hsf that is really low audible....silent compared to my athlon days...
