I'm planning to get a Haswell computer and would like to have rough estimate of the price. I already have two 1 gig drives I use in a Raid 1 safety mirror setting that I can use. I would also like to get a 128gb SSD drive for boot as well as possibly to use for whatever need might arise for needing a faster hard drive. I would also like a video card that would let me convert some very old videos I have to DVD. And I would like those in at least 640 by 480 but 720 by 480 would be better though I'm not sure that would even work with VHS video. I wouldn't even bother if all I could get is 320 by 240.

I don't think anyone outside of Intel knows what a Haswell system will sell for. But I'd take a guess that you can use the prices of an 3rd generation Core system as a rough guide and you won't be far off.

As far as VHS, the resolution of NTSC VHS is roughly 333x480.

As you wrote, no matter how good your computer is you aren't going to convert standard definition NTSC VHS into widescreen 720x480 without distortion or black bars on the sides. You could interpolate up to 640x480 though and it would probably look ok though.
