Just wondering.. I have never really read a lot of books, I do quite a bit of reading on the internet.. but I have some spare time and want an interesting book to read. Any recommendations? I like Mystery, Forensics, Serial Killers, Conspiracy.. or I might be open to something else.. a book that will definitely make you think about something in a way you never thought before...

I don't know why but i have to recommend Tom Clancy's The Bear and the Dragon. It's about 1000 pages long but of all the books I read last year (about 5. sad isn't it) I liked this one the most. It's a good old time.

If you like conspiracy, try any book by dean koontz. Most of his books arn't very long, but they're good. Try "Fear Nothing" and "Sieze the Night" to get an idea of what his books are like.

I second dean kontz, read a tech thriller by him a few months ago called dark rivers of the heart, kinda an oldie, but imo still a goodie.

Here is what I had to read for my senior HS AP class (about to graduate :D):

p.s. It is also a list of some of the worst books on Earth

Wuthering Heights
Pygmalion (not to bad)
Death of a Salesman
The Scarlet Letter
The Awakening
Their Eyes Were Watching God
1984 ( Best book on Earth (Aside from Lord of the Flies), Read This Book!)
The Great Gatsby

There were others, I just can't remember.

Read 1984!

What about the classics? Like War & Peace, Crime & Punishment, Mein Kampf... are these books worth reading? I want something that will really rock me and possibly change the way I think about something forever.

<< Mein Kampf >>

The only reason you would want to read that book is to know the evil behind the Holocaust. God help you if end up subscribing to his beliefs.

edit: I've been watching alot of the Holocaust stuff HBO has been showing recently. Accounts from survivors, etc. So it has me all fired up. ;)

If you want a classic look no further than Great Expectations by Dickens. Forget the crappy movie that came out a year ago, the book is just amazing. I read this in high school, and then a friend recommended that I go back and read it again, and I am so glad that I did...

The making of the atomic bomb by Richard Rhodes
This book is mind blowing. It is an amazing book about the creation of the nuclear bomb. Starting from the very beginning with Rutherford and CO and all the way to the first A-bomb and H-bomb. It's a 700 page book. All based on documented fact written in a very good way.
Highly recommended, 2 thumbs up!

Edit: Found the right title and a link with sample pages.

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson is one of the best books out there... Same for Cryptonomicon by the same author...

I agree with MazerRackham. Just about anything Dickens will be good, but Great Expectations and A Tale of Two Cities really stand out to me. You should also read Lord of the Flies or 1984
