What is a Radeon 9550, and Can it be modded to Radeon 9700

9550 is a slower clocked incarnation of the 9600 core. Comes in plain 9550 flavor w/ 128-bit memory, and as 9550SE w/ 64-bit.

It exists to cover the very bottom end of the market with a DirectX9 card.

Thanks guys,

I'll just go ahead and get either the Straight 9500Pro, or the 9800 SE.

I've heard both cards can be softmodded,

The 9500Pro to a 9700, and the 9800se to a full 128bit 9800np or pro dependiong on how far the mem/core will OC.

This is true is it not?

::EDIT::

I looked at that link, TStep, thanks it will be very helpfull when deciding on a card

Jeez, the 9700's are cheap enough now. Why don't you just buy a 9700? The 2 cards you mentioned cannot be modded into 9700's/9800's because they both only have a 128 bit memory bus. 9700/9800's have 256 bit memory bus.

THE ONLY CARD THAT CAN BE MODDED INTO A 9700 IS A 9500NON PRO THAT HAS THE L-PATTERN MEMORY CONFIGURATION. AND IT IS NEVER 100% GUARANTEED THAT IT WILL WORK.

THE ONLY CARD THAT CAN BE MODDED INTO A 9800 IS A 9800SE THAT HAS THE L-PATTERN MEMORY CONFIGURATION. AND IT IS NEVER 100% GUARANTEED THAT IT WILL WORK.

I AM NOT SHOUTING. JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU READ ALL OF THIS.

OK,

Thanks for the info, i think i will go with the 9800se and L shaped mem.

Even if i can't flash it, it should still be better than my GF5600u that i have now Right?

Anyway over an out,

P.S. No offense taken from the CAPs, i proly wouldnt have read it all if u hadn't caped it

Your 5600U is as good as a paperweight nothing more. Horrible, waste of PCB.

Any of the cards just listed with the exception of the 9550SE will wipe the floor with that card.
