What is a printer drum?

I need one for a Brother TN 350. Is it the same as a toner? That's the only thing that comes up with I google.
 
No...not the same the drum is the device that gets staticly charged that then charges the paper which then the toner sticks to before going through the fuser to bond it to the paper. In the brother printers if im not mistaken the toner snaps into a cartridge type device which houses the the drum...some toners do have the drum included as part of the toner though.

Some laser printers (e.g. Kyocera/Mita) have separate drums but most of the inexpensive laser printers have the drum integrated with the toner cartridges, so when you change your toner, you change the drum too (pay less up front, pay much more over time...). Your user manual should tell you whether you have a separate drum or not as it will provide separate installation instructions for it.

Also, I think sometimes printers have maintenance kits that you can purchase that takes care of pretty much everything. However, I've been working with much larger printers at work.

I have a Brother 2040 though, and I thought the drum got replaced with the toner. I will look into it when I get home...
