Different motherboard DO offer different performance levels, but the most important factor influencing speed differences between motherboards is the chipset it runs on.

Is your processor a 2.8B or 2.8C/E?

For Northwoods....I would highly recommend the IC7-Max3 (or IC7 if on budget). It uses the i875 chipset which is the best around right now. Abit motherboards are rock solid and use the best components. They offer plenty of features for whatever you want....including for major overclocking. And even build their boards to allow for major overclocking. Its what I would recommend to anyone looking to build a P4C system.

Don't be afraid to get a 865PE based board. Performance is VERY close to that of the 875 chipset and the motherboards are a lot cheaper.
