I guess I am the keeper of the tale, since I'm lazy, I shall simply cut and paste:

Created in the Anandtech forums, it was a member who posted useless crap to increase his post count. Hence, the term eventually branched out in to other forums and became a popular term among forum goers. Lifers are usually a harmless bunch, not as vicious as trolls. All they care about is the postcount..

What happened for this to be called Neffing? Who started it? Why do I think too much and ask too many questions in a Nef thread?

it was started a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...by the neffers of yore
 
I am assuming by NEF its exactly what the person before me did. just a dumb post to raise postcount. So sad!
