republicans and democrats can be liberal or conservative.

democrats are typically a little more liberal than republicans.

being liberal relates to ones ability to compromise and accept others views and lifestyles.

a few examples:
Are you pro-choice (liberal) or pro-life (conservative)?

gay marriage (liberal) or not (conservative)?

legalize marijuana (liberal) or not (conservative)?

there is a lot more to it, but if you find yourself being a hardcore liberal you are at least most certainly democrat, and even possibly green or independent. If you are hardcore conservative, I'd imagine that you'd fall into a more republican mindset

If you weren't such an idiot, you might make a decent troll... :disgust::roll:

In the most general terms, a liberal is a person who believes in social freedoms but economic control. Smoke weed all you want or do only 2 years prison time for aggravated murder, but he'll tax you to death to pay for that welfare mom because he doesn't believe that anyone ever earns wealth, or should ever reap any reward from their labors. The term liberal is given because they tended in the past to be very agressive in seeking government reforms, sometimes even risky and unneeded ones.

On the other hand, a conservative tends to believe in economic freedom but social control. No taxes, get as rich as you want but bring back Prohibition and start a religious war overseas! Such is the conservative mindset, where it is always possible to legislate morality. They're called conservatives because (in the past) they tended to resist any government reforms.

Liberals and conservatives can be of either of the 2 major parties. It's only in the last 20 or so years that they have started grouping towards the Democrats and the Republicans respectively.

I am not either, though many people mistake me for a conservative at times, and a liberal at others. I believe in both economic and social freedom, tempered only with responsibility and fair, blind justice.
That makes me a Libertarian :)

you don't sound very respectful of conservatives, so i guess we can remove you from either of those camps.

Liberal=Tree hugging, I want to save the world no matter how much it costs the people who drive the economy and pay all the taxes.

Conservative=I want to try to stimulate the economy and let the people who drive the economy continue to make this country the best country on the face of the earth.

No, that's pretty ignorant, actually. :disgust: Conservatives are what keep this country running, buddy. If we let you and Hillary have your way, we'd have a country run by gay foreigners and all the books would be in a language that the gay foreigners couldn't read. Not English, but not any language they knew either. All major employers would have to raise their EEO standards by 500% and we'd be overrun by the Taliban by 2010. And you can bet your ass I'm not too far off.

I was born poor. I am still a blue collar working stiff; these tax cuts don't help me a bit...However...I'm still a free man. Dubya does not really benefit my kind, but he AND his cabinet are the best thing we have right now and for the foreseeable future.

America is doomed if a Liberal gets into the White House in the next decade or so.

considering stereotypes, liberals are wimpy, crying, flower collecting, tree hugging, baby killing, miserable people. conservatives are racist, war-mongering, polluting, God-inspired assholes.
