Hello everyone,
Please tell me what a KVM switch is. 😕 (to be used with cordless keyboard and mouse Logitech).
😱😀

KVM switch is used for people who have say more then one computer but only one moniter. It alows you to use one keyboard, mouse and moniter to control up to 8 computers depending on which one you buy. You have a switch on the KVM or it can be done by key stokes to switch between computers. (Only one computer can be view at a time)

I have KVM switch for 2 of my computers and it saves a lot of workspace and time. Its very easy to setup and use. If you goto Hotbot.com and do a search on KVM or goto buy.com and do a search there you will see how much they are.

Hope this helped
Jason

Hi tjll11a
What do the letters KVM stand for. It's an abreviation for ....
How do I set up this switch..??
😀

K= KEYBOARD
V= VIDEO
M= MOUSE

Very happy with Cybex Switchview 4 PORT, Price cables too, they are a big part of the cost.
There are some new KVM's that support usb they are more money now but should come down in price

I have a Linksys one that is pretty nice. I can hit the CTRL key twice on the keyboard and it will switch to another systems.

Has anyone seen any video performance drops with the useing switches. Useing video cards like gforce and radeon.

Thanks
Jason

not that sweden is asking about the video part.... but

KVMs have a "rated" resolution, and they ALL degrade your video signal (extra cable length)... so no high res in most cases. you get ghosting.

as for frames per second, there is no relation

here is what they look like

not cheap? the $45 I paid for the linksys one was a heck of a lot cheaper than what an additional monitor/keyboard/mouse would have cost me. not to mention I didn't have to find a place for all that, I just found a spot for a second box.

I second the linksys KVM switiches, I have 2 port model and it came with all the cables. I have my res set to 1152x864 and don't notice any problems with UT, Q3 or anything else.

Thanks warlord I will try linksys I have alittle distortion with the KVM. But that might be due to it being so old. Maybe a newer one would work better. But don't wanna waste my money on that brand (Heard good things and bad things)

My Linksys one looks fine. 1024x768 @ 80hz and no ghosting or and it did not degrade the picture at all. It is a nice package that comes with all the cables.

warlord, where did you get yours for $45? I need to get another one for a friend.

We use a Litghwave 8-port switch at work and I run 1600x1200 on them with the longest cable being 50ft without any problems. Of course, the switch also costs $2400..but hey..it's for work..🙂

The cables that come with the linksys kvm is only 4ft. Keep that in mind when purchasing. I've tried a few brands and like Cybex the best for regular home usage.

Also check the FS/T forums, myself and others have varying types at good prices.

Do you think someone could give me a link to the linksys switch so i can make sure i get the right one. I have 2 computers right now i wanna use with it. But my concern is they both have pretty good video cards. (Radeon 32 ddr and the diamond stealth extream both rnning at 4x agp.) And i want one thats not going to give me any distortion switching between computers.

About how much did you all pay for yours?
If you have a good place to buy it let me know? I would love a link....

Thanks
Jason
