What do they mean by having a dataport? They advertise High Speed Internet Access. I thought usually that the Access would be Wireless.

Thanks for any help. :)

you know, dataport, how do you think computer connects to high speed internet before wireless?

you should be able to find a data cable in the closet, or from the front desk, it goes into your "dataport" on the back of the laptop.

The hotels ive seen that offer this simply have an RJ-45 jack in the room...some supply you with the cable, some dont. Id reccomend bringing one just in case.

Not all are wireless, the Marriott I'm in right now isn't.

$10 a night & you're tethered to the desk.

I guess it beats unsecured wireless.

Not many hotels have wireless, even the high end ones

I estimate only 3/10 hotels have wireless ready

I bring a 25 ft cable so I don't have to sit at the desk

Courtyard advertises free broadband, but not many of them are wireless in my experience

some will trick you...have free wireless in the lobby, but paid in the rooms.

also, what do you mean unsecured wireless? build VPN tunnel to main office and go through internal proxy. all traffic encrypted FTW :p ;) :D

like the other person said, you don't have a 25ft cable in your laptop bag?

always have the following in your laptop bag:

cisco router serial adapter + rolled cable
long rj45 cable
coupler
short x-over cable
wireless card if your laptop don't have one built-in
long rj11 cable if the hotel is lame
