bascially im ready to make the jump to a dvd burner.
i cannot afford the latest and greatest
a 2x-r is all i need, im setting up a spare box just for mastering purposes so the length of time it takes isnt important.

i know the pioneer -r drives have a good rep,which older drives should i avoid?which are good buys?

ill get +/- next year

Yes, the PS2 LOVES DVD+R media. I have never used a PS2 that didn't gobble it up. Older versions will ONLY use +R, whereas -R is suck on them.

Hope this helps. I asked this question a long time ago, and after no helpful hints, I tried it with both + and - R discs. I modded a bunch of PS2s for myself and friends, and those are the results. +R is good, stay away from -R.

You are completely mistaken. Its the other way around. ALL PS2 MODELS CAN PLAY DVD-R. As for DVD+R, some V4s and all V5, V6 and V7 can play those. Don't take my word for it, just look at ps2ownz.com, where thousands of people say this same thing.
