I bought a 2lb tub of whey protein from Walmart and its gone in a couple of weeks. But what I really need to do is put on another 15lbs or so (I've put on 5lbs since I've started lifting and using that 2lb tub, so I'm about 130lbs now) then I think I would be more average/healthy for my height of 5'8".

I've always had a hella time gaining weight, in fact I never do. Either way I don't have enough of an appetite to consume enough calories than what I burn. Thats why I dont gain weight I'd guess. I just haven't been hungry enough to eat a ton (and weed doesn't give me the munchies anymore, not that I gained weight when I pigged out anyway). And when I think I'm getting a fair amount of calories I look and its like 400 maybe for a whole meal. I eat a fair amount of fast food, never once do I worry about what I eat (though its rarely junk food), drink a lot of regular pop, lots of regular beer :), etc.

I bought the 2lb tub of whey protein as sort of a start/experiment, but now I think I need a bigass tub of actual weight gainer. After that hopefully I will be up 15lbs or so then I will go back to whey protein and concentrate more on lifting and building muscle.

So there's the back story. I need a cheap tub!

How is this one?

My whey protein had 20g per scoop/serving, and I did 2 scoops 2x a day. But this Ultimate Nutrition Whey Gainer needs 4 scoops. Is that gonna be a lot of powder to down? I heard some people having trouble powering a protein shake, but I did it just fine. But it seems the actual gainer powders have about 2x the scoop. Though the 628 cals per serving is right down my alley!

Do I want one with like 20% fat, 20% carbs, 60 % protein? Some sort of ratio? I'm not worried about fat really, just cause I'm so skinny anyway and my metabolism is very fast.

Please give recommendations. My roommate who is fvcking intense about lifting/supplements to say the least says Optimum Nutrition is good stuff, but its a bit pricey for me. I'm not as serious about it as him.

I'm hoping to keep it around $25-30 for a 7-10 lb tub.

Watch the cholesterol. Mine has gone up a somewhat noticeable amount in the year I've been on a high calorie and protein diet. If it keeps going up I'm going to have to do something about it.

Holy crap man, not only is that NLarge2 stuff more expensive, it also has an un-godly amount of cholesterol in it. Let's compare per serving:

ProLab N-Large2

Calories: 600
Calories from Fat: 55
Total Fat: 6g
Saturated Fat: 4g
Cholesterol: 100mg
Sodium: 150mg
Total Carbohydrates: 86g
Fiber: 2g
Sugars: 28g

Protiein: 52g

*Price: $36.95 for 10lb*

Ultimate Whey Gainer

Calories: 628
Calories from Fat: 36
Total Fat: 4g
Saturated Fat: 2.5g
Cholesterol: 57mg
Sodium: 105mg
Total Carbohydrates: 93g

Fiber: 0g
Sugars: 42g
Protiein: 55g

*Price: $27.80 for 9.3lb*

In almost every catagory the Whey Gainer outshines that N-Large stuff, even in price. The N-Large2 has almost twice as much cholesterol, 50% more sodium, less protein, and fewer calories. The Whey Gainer looks like a clear winner. :)

I've heard to stay away from the really cheap stuff. But my roommate thought that Ultimate stuff looked ok.

I'm just not sure on the amount I need for a serving. Seems like its an awful lot of powder to mix up.

Any other comments?

The Champion Heavy Gainer and Super Heavy gainer look decent. The Heavy gainer is a little low on protein but good otherwise. The Super Heavy looks awesome because it has 900 calories per serving, but is high in cholestoral and sodium, as well as the biggest thing being only 15 servings per tub!!

I'm using Isopure Zero Carb and their products are great IMHO, but probably out of your price range...$30 is just not enough for so much powder, spend the money for a better product.
